In the United States…
- Every 9 seconds a woman is beaten.
- Every 3 minutes a woman is raped.
- Only 1 out of every 10 victims of domestic violence report the incident.
- Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women between the ages of 15 and 44.
- Domestic violence is the number one cause of emergency room visits by women.
- Between one and four million women are abused by current or former husbands or boyfriends each year.
- More than 3 million children witness acts of domestic violence every year.
- The Bureau of National Affairs estimates that domestic violence costs American businesses $3 to 5 billion each year in absenteeism, lower productivity, higher turnover, and health care and safety costs.
- In one study, 74% of employed abused women were harassed at work either by phone or in person, causing 56% of them to be late for work at least five times a month, 28% to leave early at least five days a month, and 54% to miss at least three full days of work a month.

- Deaths related to domestic violence numbered 90 in 2001.
- Every 5 minutes a law enforcement officer responds to a domestic violence call.
- Every 44 minutes one or more children witness a domestic violence incident.
- 23,446 women and children requested shelter; Shelter was available to 16,126 women and children at the time of the request or 69% (2000).
